Suzuki by CFAO Motors Kenya has come on board as the Official Transport Partner of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) for the HSBC SVNS2 tournament, providing KES 2 million in sponsorship and vehicle support, the company said following the event’s conclusion on February 14–15 at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

According to the press statement, the partnership included mobility support for the KRU Executive Committee through a fleet comprising the Suzuki Jimny, Suzuki Fronx and Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The arrangement adds to a growing pattern of private-sector partnerships around Kenyan sport, where brands and distributors provide cash and in-kind support to national federations in exchange for visibility and operational integration during major competitions. For rugby, which relies on a mix of federation funding, sponsors and event revenues, transport and logistics support can reduce operating pressure during tournament windows and help organisers coordinate officials, teams and stakeholders more efficiently.

The sponsorship was announced after the tournament, which formed part of the HSBC SVNS series calendar and drew local and international attention to the Kenyan leg hosted at Nyayo National Stadium.

In the release, Suzuki by CFAO Motors Kenya said the sponsorship was valued at KES 2 million. The company also stated that it provided vehicles to support KRU leadership’s movement during the tournament period.

While the statement did not disclose the duration of the partnership beyond the HSBC SVNS2 event, the involvement of an automotive distributor in a federation transport role aligns with a broader industry trend in which mobility brands leverage sports partnerships to place vehicles into high-visibility operational use. For KRU, such support may free up resources that would otherwise be directed to fleet hire and event-time transport coordination.

For Kenya’s sports business landscape, these deals can have spillover effects: they provide a template for structured in-kind sponsorships, deepen corporate engagement in local events, and can improve event execution standards—factors that matter as Nairobi continues to position itself as a regional hub for hosting competitive sports and entertainment events.

The company said it “came on board as the Official Transport Partner of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU)” and was “backing the national team with a KES 2 million sponsorship,” according to the press release. It added that the partnership “provided mobility support to the KRU Executive Committee through vehicles including the Suzuki Jimny, Suzuki Fronx, and Suzuki Grand Vitara,” the statement said.

Looking ahead, the next milestones will likely include clarification from KRU and Suzuki by CFAO Motors Kenya on whether the partnership extends to additional fixtures beyond the Nyayo tournament, and whether it will cover other KRU activities such as camps, away fixtures or domestic competitions.
