TECNO POVA has launched its new brand platform, “Own Your Move,” in Kenya, alongside the introduction of the POVA Curve 2 5G smartphone, the company said in a media statement dated July 27, 2026, in Nairobi. The device is available for purchase and pre-order through official TECNO retail outlets, authorised dealers, operator partners, online platforms and the company’s website at a recommended retail price of KES 59,999.

The campaign centres on a public-facing expression, “They say ________. I disagree,” which TECNO POVA said is intended to encourage consumers to challenge conventional ideas about success, ambition, leadership and identity. The company is targeting professionals, entrepreneurs, creators and side-hustlers, arguing that smartphone performance and connectivity have become critical as more Kenyans manage work, learning and personal commitments through a single mobile device.

The launch comes as Kenya’s mobile market continues to shift toward faster networks and data-heavy usage. TECNO POVA cited sector statistics from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), stating that subscribers are upgrading from 2G and 3G to 4G and 5G technologies. According to the CA data referenced by the company, 5G users register the highest average data usage at 53.5 gigabytes per subscription. The company also cited CA figures showing that smartphones account for 63.7% of the 78.7 million total mobile devices connected to Kenyan networks.

“POVA is designed for people who think for themselves and take ownership of their direction,” Mildred Agoya, Marketing Manager at TECNO Kenya, said. She added that Kenyans are “actively building careers, growing businesses, learning new skills, and creating fresh opportunities,” and “do not want their personal choices defined by popularity or external pressure,” according to the statement.

TECNO POVA said the POVA Curve 2 5G is built for users who require long battery life, connectivity and speed. The company-listed specifications include an 8,000mAh battery, 5G connectivity, 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, housed in a 7.42mm body. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G processor, TECNO POVA said, and includes “G1 and SE1 Dual Enhanced Signal Chipsets” as well as eSIM support for connectivity.

The company also said the device comes with three years of free 256GB TECNO Cloud Storage. It did not disclose the terms and conditions for the cloud offering in the statement.

For Kenya’s handset market, the campaign highlights how smartphone brands are increasingly selling beyond hardware specifications by tying devices to shifting work patterns and consumer identity, especially among digitally enabled micro-entrepreneurs and creators. With CA data indicating strong growth in data consumption and a larger share of smartphones among connected devices, vendors are likely to intensify competition around battery life, storage and network performance as core productivity features rather than lifestyle add-ons.

Looking ahead, TECNO POVA said its “They say…, …I disagree” campaign will invite Kenyan consumers to share perspectives via videos, photos and personal stories, culminating in a celebration recognising local “move-makers,” according to the statement. The company did not provide a timeline for the campaign’s milestone events or how participants will be selected.
